I'd use it. I'd be ticked if I got hacked and lost all my stuff. But I'd be severely POed if my main got deleted. My HoM is the most valuable thing to me right now. If I lose items, I can get them again if I really wanted them, just as I can farm for more money. But the HoM is a ton of time and money, and if I lost that I'd probably walk away from GW1 and GW2 forever.

I think this idea is good, and also voted for arena net to give us extra security measures for free.

I also think this idea and this one here should be combine into one.

that becomes this one: a second set of password for deleting characters and doing transaction with another player.

Do you have an actual reason against this?

...or is it simply "If this is implemented I won't be able to delete other people's chars when I hack their accounts?"

That is awesome^^ good idea.
I think you should be possible to put an extra password on one of your characters, like your main. that would be when someone hacks your account, they cant access your main, which probably has the best stuff

definitely /signed, but there is no way we should be expected to pay for our account security, which lets face it PlayNC makes pretty breachable all in all...

/signed, i would lock my 3 main chars permanently asap.

personally i wouldnt mind if chars over 2 years old or r5+ koabd gets perminately locked automatically. cos u got plenty of time to erase your chars n worst case u can always buy more char slots. but im sure any of u would be furious to max if some1 erased ur main chars.. lol

its probably easier just to have another option next to “Play”, “Create”, “Delete” called “Lock” to permanently lock the char.

Ok, cool. That's right I had forgotten about that. Seems silly that with all the time it takes to unlock stuff that way it's not PvP account unlocked too, maybe not. I guess it's more prestigious that way.

So yeah If you have taken the time to unlock weapons and armor on a PvP character then definitely you want a deletion-lock on that too.

The only meaningful poll is "I would pay for this service" or "I would not pay for this service." Since I have already told you that the programming team is not available to add this feature, the only point of discussion I have with the team is "They would like this, and they are willing to pay." As I've said before, the cost of programming and implementation (which takes members of several teams) and the cost of support is prohibitive. The business team would have to consider a lot of factors (such as what it would cost to develop, how many would be likely to use it, those saying they'd pay, and then deciding not to do so), and even then it may simply be impossible to add this feature no matter how many were potentially able and willing to pay a fee for the service.
Just for those who missed what the official reply was.

Best to lock the thread, as no matter what was said, probably nothing is gonna happen.

6 months? Good god...

Set it to 24 hours and call it a day. If someone tries to delete your characters you can log back in the next day and undelete them. That way, it's reasonable if you actually decide you want to delete something. As the suggestion stands it's ridiculous. Decide you want to delete your character? Wait 6 months. Who knows if you'll even be playing in 6 months? Jeez...

Personally, I don't think either is needed (and Anet representatives agree). But if one were done, then 24 hours would be much better than the other suggested times.

would much prefer perma lock since if your account gets stolen they can just wait it out. but at that point it really wont matter anymore. i would enver delete me Rit if i did i would quit guildwars so it wouldnt matter anyways. lets go anet

With the rash of hacked accounts on the rise, some have not just had items and gold stolen, but have had characters deleted as well. This is a great feature to add so at least titles wouldnt be lost as well. Its either this or attaching a PW per character before deletion is allowed. Then you could just make a different PW per character different from the main account.

I recently tried out Runes of Magic and they have a second password for character creation/deletion (if my memory serves me right)

they also have an onscreen keybord to "click" your password to logon to help lessen the issue of keyloggers.

surely ANet can add something like this

I'll bring you my example.
In the last two months I've been able to play once a week.
Setting the lock to 24 hours would be ridiculous to me. I can't login each day.
If someone tried to delete my char, I wouldn't be able to revert that back in 24 hours.

And in last autumn I had no chance to play for more than a month.
Even in this case 24 hours would be ridiculous.

Don't assume that people have nothing to do in life so that they play every single day. Family, work, and a lot of others things prevent me and many others from being online each single day. As you can see, people have different needs.

I hope ArenaNet puts something like this in GW2.
In Lineage 2 (or it was some other game, I don't remember) each character is locked, and when you want to delete any char you have to wait 7 days, no matter what.

While I think it's a good idea, I think the time frame is way too long (Lots of people have said this), and I'd prefer if people just were smarter about their passwords and changed them often.

If something like this was to be implamented I'd rather have like a 2nd password on the characters to be able to delete it instead of a "Time locK" for the people who don't play for months.

i think this is an epic idea and should be implemented though i think that you should have a way to unlock it as well via a septet password and if you decide to unlock and right after ask to delete a flag should be raised by anet and the delete should go though for like 2-3 weeks and it should send a e-mail to you saying that some one is trying to delete one of your toons. also it should check the ip address of who is trying to unlock and delete and see if it is a ip that is in the area that the normal user uses and if it isnt anet should kick that person from the account and change the password.

I think you should have it where you lock it. Then if you want to unlock you enter in a different password from your account. That way you can protect all your characters and delete them anytime!

I missed this discussion the first time, but...

I'd use it, if it was available. I'm pretty sure my account is safe, but even with the highest degree of internet-savvy, there's still always that chance, however miniscule, of something going wrong without it being either the user's fault or the company's. An added, optional layer of protection would certainly be a valuable source of peace of mind.

Losing stuff would be annoying, but I'd much rather be building back up from established if naked characters than all the way from the beginning. And charity of friends would likely mean that you would be building up from the equivalent of Drok's armour and collector/preorder gear rather than with nothing. One can give a fellow player charity to get them back in the game after losing items, but you can't give them their character back. Like some people have already said - If I found my characters deleted at this stage, I'm not sure I'd bother coming back.

I can certainly see that there are higher priorities, but I don't see any reason to discard the idea outright when it could be placed in the 'something to look at if there is ever time to do so' pile.

Protecting people from themselves is a lost cause

You cannot delete a character accidentally. It asks you for character name.

And as for argument about "hackers". Again - you cannot protect people from themselves. It's not "evil hackers on teh interwebs" that are the problem. They would just go in, and sell items.

Those that hijack accounts for botting and similar don't care about deleting the characters. So you don't solve anything.

And soon, people would demand that items in-game can get locked, so that they can't be deleted.

Btw, I've never had a problem with character deleting, if you dont want to delete it, just dont do it ^^. But probably would help for a few ppl.
He did say this idea was more for account theft.
However just don't do anything that could get your account info stolen and this isnt needed.

Also what Gaile gray wrote like a YEAR ago. Hacking is not something that happens alot and it is not server side it is the USERS doing stupid things to get there account stolen. I've been playing this since it came out and have never had an issue, I also don't visit sites that would compromise my computer.
This imo just isn't needed so /notsigned.
